This Could Be Huge!
PS4 NEWS... SEPT/NOV 2013 EmptyThu May 31, 2018 10:16 am by RedKnight
This could be great news for Modern Warfare Gamers on the PS4/5 and xBox1.

While we wait for H-Hour... if it ever gets here... and with the new WW2 Battlefield V coming this Fall and with BF1 and CoD WW2 out now... both crap games in my opinion... at least we have some hope for a great new War Shooter.  If MW4 includes any Clan Support with Custom User Private Servers... MW4 will be pure GOLD!

Call of Duty: WWII review—The less things change…
Stripping out years of feature creep, but doesn't have anything to replace it.

Steven Strom - 11/8/2017, 2:00 PM

Call of Duty: WWII certainly has some interesting timing. It has the dubious duty of returning the landmark first-person series to its titular roots at a time when any game centered on fascism, nationalism, and especially Nazism …

Battlefield 1 looks like a BF4 remake.  I have lots of issues at present.  Maybe after BF1 is out for a few weeks... I could change my mind.  But I have to find at a new game for SoF that has good Clan Support and good Clan controllable Private Servers.  And EA/DICE seems to have left that world behind after BF3.  So... we'll see.

Sony: Gaikai may deliver PlayStation content to other devices
by Earnest Cavalli Writer RSS on Sep 25th 2013

PS4 NEWS... SEPT/NOV 2013 Gaikai-tech-isn-39-t-just-for-PlayStation-1087852

Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios, sees the Gaikai streaming service as key to his goal of transforming PlayStation from a hardware platform to "something closer to a service."

Sony acquired Gaikai in June of 2012 from former Shiny Entertainment head and Gaikai founder David Perry. It's long been known that Sony hopes to use Gaikai's technology to stream PlayStation, PS2 and PS3 games to the PlayStation 4 in lieu of hardware-based backwards compatibility, but now it seems that Sony wants Gaikai to spread PlayStation software to non-PlayStation (and potentially non-Sony) devices.

"Speaking of the ultimate goal, we would like to deliver PlayStation games to all devices," Yoshida stated in an interview with Dengeki Online (translated by DualShockers). "So we're considering various things like PC, TVs, Blu-ray players, smartphones, and tablets."

"We hope to continue to expand not only to Sony devices, but even to devices other than Sony's," Yoshida added.

Yoshida's ultimate goal is to create a web of devices capable of streaming PlayStation content, with Sony's latest console serving as a hub for this activity. "We previously spoke about PlayStation going from hardware to something closer to a service, regardless of the device - of course PlayStation will still be the center, but I think we would like to expand to different things," Yoshida said.

Upgradable cross-gen titles won't transfer single-player data. Shifting up to next-gen versions sacrifices SP progress

PS4 NEWS... SEPT/NOV 2013 Image_307398_460

Players who participate in any of the numerous cross-gen game upgrade schemes for Xbox One and PS4 will be forced start their single-player campaigns from the beginning.

Various schemes will be in place to allow buyers of specific current-gen titles to upgrade to next-gen versions at little extra cost. But the publishers of those games have warned that single-player saved data will not be retained in the transfer.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Watch Dogs, and Battlefield 4 have been confirmed to be supported by Sony's digital upgrade policy, while UK retailer GAME has said it will offer £40 credit on Xbox 360 and PS3 copies of FIFA 14, Battlefield 4 and Call Of Duty: Ghosts when traded for Xbox One or PS4 versions of the same game.

EA and Activision have confirmed that online multiplayer data for Battlefield 4 and CoD: Ghosts (respectively) will make the jump across generations - owing mainly to that progress being server-based.

But single-player save files for current-gen versions of those games, and for Assassin's Creed IV, will not be compatible with next-gen versions, it was confirmed to Kotaku today.

Ubisoft is yet to confirm if this is also the case with Watch Dogs, but it would appear likely.

Sony has confirmed that players who use its digital upgrade scheme to upgrade a physical version of a PS3 game will be required to keep the PS3 disc for insertion into the PS4 to enable gameplay.

PS4 console gets ‘Red Line of Death’ to avoid overheating
Bill Hess on October 15, 2013
LINK  PS4 NEWS... SEPT/NOV 2013 8515066067_f55c283230_o

Both Microsoft and Sony had their fair share of hardware defects with the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.  It’s enough to make gamers worried about these big investments in next-gen hardware.   With the extended gameplay sessions and even longer fits of movie watching and entertainment use, there’s no hiding from the possibility of overheating.

While Microsoft has done well to avoid any public overheating issues in the demos of the console,  Sony has seen a couple public console malfunctions, and this might be their first publicly captured sighting of the ‘Red Line of Death’ from Spanish site Elotrolado if this rumored report is true.

Usually lit up in blue, the PS4 was on display in an unventilated plastic case when the blue light turned red.  The forum poster claims that a message showed up on the screen that said the console had a very high temperature.  From the sounds of it, it didn’t mean that the hardware was fried or anything.  According to the report, once the console was given some room to breathe, the error message was gone and the light returned to its normal blue color.

PS4 NEWS... SEPT/NOV 2013 Ps4-red-line-of-death

Let’s just hope that Sony and Microsoft have learned from their hardware mistakes that brought us the Red Ring of Death fiasco, and Sony’s more muted Yellow Light of Death issues.  It would be a bitter pill to swallow if these consoles have the issues that their predecessors did.

PS4 NEWS... SEPT/NOV 2013 Ps4-red-line-of-death1

Since it’s pretty easy to photoshop something like this, we’re gonna chalk it up to rumors at this point.  We’ll find out soon enough however, the PlayStation 4 launches in one month’s time on November 15th.

Sony Confirms 8-Player Party Chat on PlayStation 4

Sony’s PlayStation 4 will be able to support up to eight players over party voice chat, the company has confirmed.

Similar to the PlayStation Vita, social media manager Sid Shuman has confirmed eight-player party voice chat for the PlayStation 4 in the comments section of a Killzone: Shadow Fall post on the PlayStation Blog.

“Party Voice Chat will support up to 8 players on PS4, like PS Vita,” Shuman wrote.

This is in addition to the cross-platform party chat feature that the console will also boast when it launches this November 15.

DualShock 4′s analog face buttons digitalized, R2/L2 triggers shown
Authored by Zarmena Khan
LINK  PS4 NEWS... SEPT/NOV 2013 8515066067_f55c283230_o

The new face buttons in Sony’s next-gen controller feel the same, but they won’t necessarily behave the same way, it has been confirmed.

DualShock 3 controllers could sense how hard players were pressing a certain button to provide a limited range of input. For instance, if you’re using the X button to accelerate in a racing game, how fast your car goes will depend on how hard you’re pressing the button.

Toshimasa Aoki, a manger at SCE’s product planning department, said that the mechanism has been changed. “With the DualShock 3, we were able to get analog data, which games didn’t really use. For DualShock 4, we deleted that, and now it’s all digital. The mechanism inside is a little different, and the data that games get is different.”

On another note, the R2/L2 triggers have changed as well and quite frankly, they look much better now. You can see the difference below.

PS4 day-one update can be background downloaded while you play
by Andrew Yoon, Oct 28, 2013 6:00am PDT
LINK  PS4 NEWS... SEPT/NOV 2013 8515066067_f55c283230_o

You'll need to download a 300MB patch to access most of PlayStation 4's features. However, you'll still be able to play games out of the box. With over a million consoles scheduled to go out on day one, there's always a chance that PlayStation Network servers may be hammered. Thankfully, you'll still be able to play games and have the update the download in the background.

Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida confirmed on Twitter that you'll be able to download the patch in the background.

Of course, you'll only be able to play games offline. Without the update, you won't be able to access PSN features. You also won't be able to play Blu-ray movies or DVDs, so while your PS4 is downloading the update, expect to play games. And, really, only play games.

PlayStation App to launch on iOS and Android just ahead of PlayStation 4
by Steve Watts, Oct 25, 2013 9:25am PDT
LINK  PS4 NEWS... SEPT/NOV 2013 8515066067_f55c283230_o

Sony announced today that it will release the dedicated PlayStation App just ahead of the PlayStation 4 launch. The app, which enables second screen functionality for PS4, will release for free on November 13. That puts it right before the November 15 PS4 launch, but just in time for those who get early access from the Taco Bell promotion.

In addition to Vita, it will be available on iOS and Android devices. The app will let you access your profile, browse your Friends List and Trophies, send and receive messages, make PlayStation Store purchases, get news updates from Sony, and use the mobile device as a simple PS4 remote. While it's built to be a companion for the PS4, the messaging will work across PS3 and Vita too. You'll also get notifications of streams, but rather than watch them directly through the app, tapping will launch a browser to spectate the game.

PS4 won't let you suspend and resume gameplay at launch
Connor Sheridan on October 25, 2013

If you want to experience most of the nifty next-gen features Sony flaunted for PS4, you'll need to download a day-one update, according to the PlayStation Blog. The 300 MB patch (mysteriously numbered 1.50) is annoying though not unexpected, but one convenience will remain unavailable even after installing it: suspending and resuming games.

It's meant to make PS4 titles as easy to pick up and put down as a mobile game: you simply suspend the game when you want to take a break for a while, putting the system in a low-power state, and resume it almost instantly when ready to start again.

Don't let that keep you from installing update 1.50, though, unless you don't want to:

   Remote play with PS Vita
Use second screen with PS Vita or PlayStation App on iOS and Android
Record video/take screenshots and share them
Broadcast and spectate gameplay on Twitch or Ustream
   Play as you download games
   Log in with multiple users
Voice chat with a party of friends
Log in with facial recognition and navigate with voice commands (via PS Camera)
Play background music via Music Unlimited
   Play Blu-ray discs and DVDs
Or play online with PS Plus

Sony plans to say more about upcoming PS4 features in the near future.

Sony Releases Massive PS4 FAQ – No External HDD support, Remote Play Over Internet, and More
Tom Gregorio October 30, 2013
LINK  PS4 NEWS... SEPT/NOV 2013 8515066067_f55c283230_o

In anticipation of next month’s launch of the PS4, Sony has released a massive FAQ covering everything from launch titles, features of Playstation Plus, and support for used games. You can check out the full list here, but here are some interesting tidbits contained within the massive FAQ:
Music

Can I listen to audio CDs using PS4?

No, PS4 does not support audio CDs.

Will I be able to play MP3s on PS4?

No.

Will I be able to play background music while I play PS4 games?

Yes, the Music Unlimited streaming service will allow you to listen to music while you play PS4 games. A subscription to Music Unlimited is required. Get full details here.

Playstation Plus

What are the benefits of PlayStation Plus on PS4? What will I be missing out on if I don’t purchase a PS Plus membership?

PlayStation Plus, the premium game membership for PlayStation home and handheld consoles, delivers unlimited access to a regularly refreshed collection of full games, discounts, exclusive beta access, online storage for game saves, and much more.

If I’m not a PlayStation Plus member but I log into a PS4 system owned by a PS Plus member, will I be able to play online multiplayer?

Yes. If you don’t have a PS Plus membership, you can still access online multiplayer modes if you log into a PS4 which is set as “Primary” by a PS Plus member. This means that, for example, if one housemate is a PlayStation Plus member, everyone in the household will have access to online multiplayer. Additionally, on the same PS4 system, any games or content purchased by one user are available to other users who play on that console (unless that content has expired).

How many users can play online multiplayer modes on a single PS4 system set as “Primary” by a PS Plus member?

All users can play online multiplayer modes. Up to four users can log in simultaneously to a single PS4 system, and all will have access to multiplayer as long as PS4 is set as “Primary” by a PS Plus member.

How many local accounts does PS4 support?

PS4 supports up to 16 local accounts, in addition to temporary guest accounts.

What features will be available with PlayStation Plus on PS4?

The following benefits will be available only to PlayStation Plus members on PS4:

   Online Multiplayer
Enjoy multiplayer competitive and cooperatives games via the internet.
   Instant Game Collection
Access to a regular, curated selection of titles made exclusively available to PlayStation Plus members at no additional cost. The PS4 titles available on Instant Game Collection at PS4′s launch in North America will include Resogun and Contrast.
   Discounts
Members will have access to exclusive discounts on PlayStation Store.
   Online Game Save
Members may automatically (or manually) upload game save files to Online Game Save Storage for safekeeping. Up to 1GB of cloud storage will be allocated to your PS4 save files.
   Other benefits
Early access to exclusive game content, automatic game patch downloads and installation, and more.

What network services will be free on PS4, without a PlayStation Plus membership?

Some of the features users can enjoy for free include:

Accessing entertainment, film, and TV services (Users must subscribe separately to individual services)
Share options, including sending gameplay video and screenshots to Facebook, screenshots to Twitter, or livestreaming gameplay via Ustream or Twitch
   Sharing video to Facebook,
Playing PS4 games remotely using the PS Vita system (Remote Play)
Comparing Trophy data with other users
Sending and receiving text messages from other users
PlayStation Store access (users must pay to purchase premium content)
Live item, activity feeds on Dynamic Menu
   Party (cross game voice chat)
   Web browser
PlayStation App services (on iOS/Android devices)

Storage

Will users be able to replace PS4’s stock 500GB hard drive? What hard drive sizes are supported?

PS4 owners will be able to replace PS4’s standard hard drive. PS4’s hard drive is used to store downloaded game and video content, game save files, gameplay movies and images, and more.

What type of hard drive does PS4 use?

PS4 is equipped with a 5400 RPM SATA II hard drive. Users can choose to install a new hard drive so long as it complies with these standards, is no thicker than 9.5mm, and is larger than 160GB.

Will users be able to connect an external hard drive to expand storage on PS4?

No, this feature is not supported on PS4.

Remote Play

What is Remote Play?

Remote Play will enable users to stream their PS4 gameplay to their PS Vita system via WiFi, freeing up the television for other uses. SCEA expects that most PS4 titles will support Remote Play unless the title requires a special peripheral like PlayStation Camera.

When will Remote Play work best?

Remote Play will work best when the PS Vita system is located within the same WiFi network where PS4 is connected. We also recommend that PS4 be connected to the local area network via an Ethernet cable, that a router suitable for gaming be used and that the PS Vita system be within close proximity of the WiFi access point so that the connection is free of interference.

Can Remote Play work outside the user’s home network?

We strongly recommend that Remote Play be used within the same WiFi network where PS4 is connected. Remote Play may or may not work over a wide area network. For Remote Play to function over a wide area network, a robust and stable WiFi connection and broadband Internet connection is required, and the local area network where PS4 is connected must be configured to permit the PS Vita system to access PS4.

PS4 vs Xbox One: why Microsoft’s console is the superior multimedia box

Xbox One

Microsoft attracted flak when it chose to focus on non-gaming features for Xbox One’s debut. It has since somewhat redressed the balance, but still wants Xbox One to the absolute centre of your living room. Chief among its strategies is the ability to integrate your TV by plugging a set-top box into the console’s HDMI in port. This, along with Skype, streaming services such as HBO, ESPN and Netflix, and a Blu-ray drive are all controllable through Kinect’s improved voice recognition and Xbox One’s clean UI. But Microsoft also has big plans for advertising, though it has denied reports that it is thinking about the ways in which it can offer Kinect-gathered biometric data to advertisers looking to increase and hone their reach. Netflix is waiting for a “societal evolution” on privacy before it looks into this potentially shady area, but exactly how long will it be until users are comfortable with this type of surveillance?

PlayStation 4

While PS4 owners will require a PS Plus subscription for online play, very little else will be behind a paywall. Unlike Xbox One – which requires a Live Subscription for any online activity, plus game recording and sharing – streaming services such as Hulu, LoveFilm and Netflix, and party chat will be available to all PS4 owners. Sony’s redesigned XMB interface is less cluttered, though it still doesn’t feel as intuitive as Xbox One’s UI. One nice touch, however, is the ability to switch to motion control when typing by clicking the right stick. It’s a surprisingly intuitive alternative to navigating by D-pad. Sony has also redesigned its Music Unlimited service, offering users a global library of over 22 million songs that can be browsed and listened to without having to leave your game. PS4 may have a reduced offering when it comes to media content, but what it does have will be open to all and additive to its primary focus: games.

If you want a multimedia box and don’t mind Kinect’s insidious side, Xbox One is the clear winner.
